The majority of Trout fishing in Cornwall is fly-fishing on Stillwater's for stocked Rainbow. However there are a few lakes which contain wild Browns. Most of the rivers in Cornwall require you to be a member and don't sell day permits, except for the river Camel. The River Camel’s source is from the North of Bodmin Moor, flows past Camelford to its estuary at Wadebridge. This river offers a few Moorland Brown Trout, a good run of Sea Trout in the Summer and Salmon late in the season.

If you are staying in the Hayle/St.Ives area, we recommend you pay a visit to Tree Meadow Trout Fishery. This private water has two lakes set in a wooded valley within 3 Acres of Spring Fed Water. One of the lakes contains some specimen Rainbow into double figures. Different day tickets available, they also offer Catch and Release and there is no closed season.

Drift Reservoir near Penzance offers fly-fishing only, on a 65 acre lake for mainly Wild Browns and a few Rainbows. This lake can prove to be hard fishing, although the picturesque and peaceful surroundings make up for it. Seasons - 1st April - 31st October

Stithians, a 275 acre lake, near Redruth is an Intermediate Fishery run by the South West Lakes Trust, which this year is being named as one of their premier Trout fisheries. Stocked Rainbow to 6lb, these fish are hard fighting and are in prime condition. Season 15th March - 12th October. Fly-fishing Only, Catch and Release on Barbless Hooks. A 7lb + was taken out in May 2002

Ventontrissick Trout Farm, St Allen near Truro is a small half acre fishery, containing Rainbow from 1-10lb. This fishery offers £4.50 rod ticket and then £1.50 per pound, first two fish to be killed and then catch and release is optional. Open all year round from 8am - 1hr after Sunset. Please telephone before fishing, as a maximum of 5 Anglers at anytime is permitted.

If you would like any information on the above, concerning tickets/permits, directions or any other waters not listed, please contact The County Angler. Don't forget any catch details.
